Born May 22, 1975, to Debra Alexandra-Carter and Howard Hairston, was Chauncey Dermont Alexander of Greensboro, North Carolina. Chauncey attended Ben L. Smith High School and graduated in 1994.
During his high school years, Chauncey played basketball and football. He really enjoyed these sports.
In 1996, Chauncey had an unfortunate automobile accident, which left him paralyzed from the chest down. This accident changed his life, but not his drive to excel in his future endeavors. In 1998 he attended Guilford Technical Community College and earned 2 degrees. He graduated in 2002 with an Associates Degree in General Education, and Architectural Technology.
He was also employed at Guilford Technical College for 3 years in the media department and in 2007 he was offered a position with a modular home construction company as a drafter. Although Chauncey had a disability, he always had a great outlook on life and felt that his purpose for living was by the grace of God. "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."
In 2005, Chauncey met the love of his Iife, Sharnelle (Simons) Alexander and was married on February 14, 2010. Chauncey became, not just a husband to Sharnelle, but also a father to Sherrelle and a grandfather to Journey.
Chauncey enjoyed watching basketball and football with his brothers and friends. He enjoyed trying his pallet with all types of cuisines, from different cultures. He enjoyed traveling and that he did. He even traveled as far as to Jamaica.
Chauncey was predeceased by his 2 grandmothers, Alethia Alexander (2014), Pauline Smith (2022), and his father Howard Hairston (2018). He leaves to mourn, his wife, Sharnelle Alexander, daughter, Sherrelle Simons, grandson, Journey Simons, mother, Debra (John) Alexander-Carter, aunt, Bonnie Alexander, uncle, Davie Alexander, 3 brothers, Sherrod Smith (Kimberly), Brandon Beam (Courtney), Keith Burch (Y'landa), 1 sister Shauntia Smith, Cousin, Dr. Dameon Alexander, Phd. (Melissaa), a host of many other extended family members and friends.
Chauncey went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 1, 2024. He will be remembered most for his calm and collective demeanor, his warm and beautiful smile, unwavering kindness and his love for all. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, cousin and friend, Chauncey touched the hearts of all who crossed his path. We come together to celebrate a life well-lived and to find solace in the cherished memories we shared. May the Lord let his perpetual light continue to shine upon him for all eternity.
