Ashley Dewayne Ellis, born on July 7, 1974, in Salisbury, North Carolina, to Apostle Mary K. Burton of Charlotte, North Carolina, and the late Charles T. Ellis of Salisbury, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on March 7, 2026. Ashley was a proud graduate of Salisbury High School, Class of 1993. He was employed by New BR Services, LLC, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Ashley was a loving father, devoted grandfather, caring brother, and cherished uncle. He had a passion for baking, which brought joy to many. He also enjoyed fishing, music, and spending quality time with his family. Known for his generous spirit, Ashley was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He was a devoted sports fan, proudly supporting his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the North Carolina Tar Heels. His love for sports extended beyond spectating, as he dedicated time to coaching youth football and basketball, positively impacting many young lives. Ashley will be remembered for his warm heart and infectious smile, which could brighten even the darkest days.
He leaves to cherish his memory his estranged wife, Sherniesa Fisher-Ellis; his beloved son, Aveyon Ellis; his daughter, Zaneetra Teeter; his bonus children, Keyvon and Teauni Bell; and his cherished grandson, Kaylon, all of Concord.
He is survived by his brother, Thomas (Tamara) Ellis of Virginia; his sister, Dyrita (Shawn) Harris of Statesville; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Miller of Statesville. Ashley also leaves behind a host of loving nieces—Charavia, Deosha, Olivia, Alyric, DeAzia, and Destini—and nephews—Kevin, Daquon, Caleb, and Keithen. He is also survived by his great-aunt, Patricia Johnson of High Point.
He is survived by his aunts: Teresa, Diane, Margaret, Charlette, Lillian, and Gladys (Kenny), all of Statesville; Priscilla (Tony) of China Grove; and Annie and Deborah of Salisbury; as well as his uncles: Richard of Salisbury, John Henry (Tereasa) of High Point, and Anthony Reddick of Statesville.
Ashley also shared a special bond with his bonus brothers: Todd Allen, Antwan Reid, Roncolyn Houston, Javon Caldwell, and Chesten Harrell, as well as his special friend, Peggy Alexander, along with a host of cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Major (Fannie) Ellis of Salisbury; his maternal grandfather, William Miller; his aunts, Clara Jones and Margaret Austin; and his uncles, Johnny Rae Ellis, Donald Ellis, James Reddick, and Teddy Miller. Ashley has gained his wings and is now reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him. His memory will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
