On October 8, 1938, Georgianna (Davis) and George Adam Brown became the proud parents of a baby boy and named him Hazell De Armon Brown. There after affectionately known as “Bunny”. He spent his early years in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, where he attended Plato Price High School. He attended from the first grade to the twelfth and graduated in 1956. Hazell was raised in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and was baptized and grew up in Moore’s Sanctuary AME Zion Church. It was always his wish to come back and return to where it all began.
He became an eagle scout at 13 and succeeded in his senior year to serve as Scout Master of the troop. After High School, he attended Hampton University in Hampton Virginia then Brooklyn College in New York City. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1959 then spent the next 4 years at sea and on Military bases here in the U.S. and abroad. Upon being discharged from the Marine Corps he was encouraged to consider living in New York City where there were lots of relatives and friends. He secured employment in the financial district of New York City and worked at 3 different banks. He spent 33 years in the banking industry before retiring in 1996.
He was a Licensed Real Estate Broker, a licensed Home Improvement Contractor and an avid photographer. He owned his own company, DAB Development Co.
Upon retiring from banking and the Real Estate business he moved to Florida where he maintained a second home. In Florida he co-owned and operated a courier business for a time and then fully retired to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a published author. He also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity helping to build homes for the less fortunate.
He is survived by is wife of 42 years, Angelina. As well as his sister Dr. Barbara A. Brown, three children, Wanda Pendergrass (Francis), Michael Brown and Tatia Robertson. Three stepchildren Eydie Copeland, Eddie Brown and Felicity Rogers. Seven grandchildren Jurhandi Pendergrass, D’najah Thomas (Oliver), Tiffanie Brown, Juanice Brown, Ebony Lofton, Kerina Isoke and Kassia Isoke. Three Great Grand Children, Essence, Nathaniel and Aiden. Also his Godson Mr. Darryl Boyd, as well as a host of cousins.
