Mr. James Watkins Jr.

James “Junebug” Edwards Watkins Jr. 57, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. He was born on February 15, 1968, to the late James Edward Watkins, Sr. and Libby Watkins Blackwell. James was a member of Church of the Word of God in Spencer, NC, where he proudly served as a trustee.

James worked for Lynn Shaw for many years. In later years, due to his disability, he transitioned to working in lawn care services with 'WhattheCut.' He was a man who never met a stranger, with a remarkable ability to make everyone around him laugh. But it was his generous nature, constant smile, and love for his family—especially his children—that truly defined him.

James leaves to cherish his memory: his son, James Watkins, III; his daughters, Jasmine and Janessa Watkins; his grandchildren, Jaden and Journee Watkins; his partner, Shawn McNeely, and children, daughters Qur-an and Qunita, and son Quincy; his mother, Libby Watkins Blackwell, and stepfather, David Blackwell; his siblings, brother Clifford, sisters Teresa (Ronnie) Hearne, Patricia and Edna Watkins, and Sheba, Renard, and Davon; his uncles, Ray (Kay) Watkins, James, Arthur (Ruby), and William Cuthbertson, and Jimmy Jones; his aunts, Mary McConeyhead, Rosetta Powell, Brenda and Leila Cuthbertson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members who hold him close in their hearts.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Edwards Watkins, Sr.; his daughter, Ashley Watkins; his uncles, David and Jerry Watkins, Wyatt Cuthbertson Jr., John, Paul, and Jerry Cuthbertson, and Bennie Powell; and his aunts, Jennel and Lola Watkins, Martha Rolland, Maude Jones, Geraldine, Cora Bell, Norma Ruth, and Debra Cuthbertson.

Junebug’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed enough to know him.
