Mr. John Simmons Jr.

John Robert Simmons, Jr. was born on May 18, 1937, in Edgefield, South Carolina, to the late John Robert Simmons, Sr. and Louise Simmons. He was the oldest of five children, all of whom preceded him in death.

John received his education at Central Piedmont Community College in 1978. He was a hardworking and devoted man who dedicated 47 years of service as a truck driver with Ginyard in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy Walker Simmons; his daughter, Vontina Knotts (Reginald); his son, Torrence Simmons; his sister, Ann L. Huey Carmichael; and his brothers, Thomas Smith and Joseph Smith.

John had a deep love for photography and enjoyed exploring trucks, motorcycles, cars, and campers. He also found joy in swimming and fishing.

A man of many talents and interests, John wore many hats throughout his life—and wore them well.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Tanserie Simmons-Rorie (Terry), Evangelist Lafranzell Simmons, Randall Simmons (Mae), Yvette Miller, Dwayne Miller, and Chris Miller, all of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also survived by a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
