Burgaw

Sandra Ayers Capps, affectionately known as Sandee, aged 74, of Burgaw, North Carolina, left this world peacefully on November 20, 2025. Born on September 2, 1952, Sandee was a loving wife and mother, a cherished grandmother, and a beloved sister and friend. Her life was a true testament to kindness, warmth, and resilience.

Sandee is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry C. Capps; her daughter, Stephanie Goddard, and husband Scott; and her stepsons, Michael Capps and Bobby Capps. She took immense pride in her role as “Mawmaw” to her grandchildren, Travis and Jacob Goddard, who brought endless joy and light into her life.

She is also survived by her dear sisters, Pam Gortman (Wyatt) and Nan Fletcher (Michael); brother-in-law Ruben Capps (Carol); and sisters-in-law Sandra Townsend (Johnny), Janet Bradley (Donald), and Brenda Messer. Sandee treasured her family deeply and held every moment with them close to her heart.

Sandee will also be remembered fondly by her nephews: Josh Martin, Travis Gortman, Nicholas Fletcher (Alycia), Daniel Tuggle, and Tracy Johnson. Her nurturing spirit, infectious laughter, and ability to make everyone around her feel loved will be missed more than words can express.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Garnett and Nancy Ayers, and her beloved nephew, Matthew Fletcher.

Throughout her life, Sandee embodied generosity and compassion. She touched countless lives with her unwavering support and had a remarkable gift for lighting up any room she entered. Her profound love for her family remains her lasting legacy.

At Sandee’s request, there will be no formal service. Her family encourages everyone to honor her memory in their own meaningful way. Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Services in her honor.

Rest in peace, dear Sandee. Your legacy of love will continue to guide and inspire us.
