Pastor Ollie “Queen” Huey Hunter

October 13, 1940 — December 4, 2025

Charlotte

Pastor Ollie “Queen” Huey Hunter was born on October 13, 1940, to the late Mack and Viola Huey in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was one of fourteen children, all of whom preceded her in death. She received her education in the Mecklenburg County School System and was a proud graduate of Plato Price High School.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert Huey, John Huey (Dottie), Roosevelt Huey, Otis Huey, and Jim Beatty; and her sisters Mary Huey, Laura Manning, Elizabeth Archie (J.C.), Catherine Ross, Sarah Bert (Vernell), and Maggie Huey Camp.

Pastor Hunter furthered her education by earning a Diploma of Theology and attending the Theological Seminary of True Way. Throughout her life, she held various positions, including environmental services at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and serving at the Restaurant Coffee Cup in hospitality. She has left a lasting impact on the community she loved.

From a young age, Ollie had a deep passion for preaching, teaching, and music. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Chappell Memorial Baptist Church. Over the years, she continued her spiritual journey, serving faithfully at Lighthouse, Greater St. James, and Greater Faith Holy Temple. She later became the Pastor of Greater Faith Holy Temple, where she served with dedication until her health no longer allowed her to continue.

Pastor Hunter was a devoted believer and a faithful follower of Christ throughout her life. She poured freely into the lives of others with the same love, compassion, and wisdom that God poured into her. In addition to her ministry in music, she taught Sunday School and worked closely with the youth department. Her unwavering faith and commitment to the work of the Lord remain a beautiful and enduring part of her legacy.

Pastor Hunter was united in marriage to the late William F. Hunter, with whom she shared many years of love. Their union was blessed with many of God’s children, whom she cherished deeply.

She leaves to honor and cherish her memory her Godmother, Dr. Annie Mae Massey of Charlotte; and a very special God-sister and caretaker, Dr. Sylvia Sual of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
