CLEVELAND - Ms. Ruth Rosetta Culbertson Askew, 71, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday Jan. 3, 2015, at Liberty Commons.
Born Jan. 30, 1943, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Essie Mae Oakley Culbertson and preceded in death by her husband Tyrone Askew.
She was a graduate of R.A. Clement High School, where she was Valedictorian to the class of 1960. She retired from New York Transit System as a Supervisor.
She was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon, a member of the Presbyterian Women, and member of the Kitchen Committee before her health declined.
Those left to cherish her memory are sisters Mary Frances (John) Taylor and Grace C. (Thomas) Jones; brothers Walter R. (Shirley) Culbertson, Roman O. (Dorothy) Culbertson and Marvin Culbertson; a host of nieces, nephews and a special friend Rev. Sonny Turner.
Visitation and Services: Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2014 from 12-1 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church followed by the funeral at 1 p.m., intermittent at the church cemetery. The family will be at Ms. Askew's home 2310 Amity Hill Rd., Cleveland to receive visitors.
