Mrs. Sadie "Jean" Wilkins Little

Mrs.Sadie "Jean" Wilkins Little was born September 20, 1943, the baby of four born to the late Diamond C. and Avis Fair Wilkins Monroe fifteen minutes after her identical twin, Joan Wilkins Pemberton. She peacefully entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 26, 2015, surrounded by loving and devoted family and friends at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Jean attended Monroe Street Elementary School and J.C. Price High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education from Livingstone College, and, subsequently, pursued a teaching career. Jean taught at Charles C. Erwin Middle School in Salisbury, North Carolina prior to relocating to New York, where she garnered a Master's in Business Education from Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts. She retired as a teacher from the New York City Department of Education's Crotona Academy High School. Jean was a faithful lifelong member of Soldiers Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, which was founded by her great-grandfather, Mr. Berry Davis. In her formative years, she was active in both Sunday and Bible Schools and the Junior Choir. She was a life member of the Anna Hauser Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society, a member of the Women's Fellowship, and representative for Church Women United, where she was the chair of the organization's "May Friendship Day". Jean also served in several capacities as church hostess, worked with the kitchen committee, assisted with Vacation Bible School, and supported numerous other church activities. In the community, Jean previously worked with the former CETA program at the YMCA in Cleveland, North Carolina. She also was a member of the Salisbury Civitan Club, where she was chair of the club's "Shakers Dance". In addition to her husband, Edwin (Chick) Little, Sr., Jean was preceded in death by her son, Edwin (Eddie) Little, Jr. Those left to forever cherish her memory are daughter, Sonya (Osborne) Fields of Salisbury; sisters, Joan Wilkins Pemberton and Avis Wilkins Crawley, both of NY; brother, James Diamond (Victoria) Wilkins, NY; six grandchildren: Shamika L. (Sampson) Chambers of Charlotte, North Carolina; Shante J. Little of Durham, North Carolina; Shayla M. Fields of Concord, North Carolina; Shasmine L. Fields of Salisbury; Randall J. (Zandria) Jones; and Lakeisha Roberts of Salisbury; ten great grandchildren, who all affectionately called her "Mama Jean"; Two aunts Mrs. Maybelle Wilkins of Brooklyn, NY,and Mrs. Vietta F. Roberts, of Salisbury; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; endearing best friend, Ella D. Woods of Salisbury; special friends, Cheryl Richardson of Louisburg, North Carolina and Katherine Stewart of Salisbury; goddaughter, Cynthia R. (Eugene) Nunn of Salisbury; and many other dear friends. Sadie Jean Wilkins Little will always be remembered for her outgoing personality, her compassion for others, and, especially, for her devotion as a loving and nurturing daughter. After her husband's death, she committed herself to being a companion to her mother. When her mother's health began to decline, Jean faithfully and lovingly cared for her until her very recent passing February 8, 2015. Pulbic Viewing: Saturday, May, 2 from 12 noon to 7 pm, at Soldier Memorial AMZ Zion Church, 306 N. Church St. Visitation and Funeral Service: Sunday, May, 3, at 2p.m. , at Soldier Memorial AMZ Zion Church. The family will recieve friends from 2p.m. - 3p.m. Entombment: Monday May, 4 at 1 p.m. at Rowan Memorial Park. Family and friends are welcome.Boone-Carroll Funeral Home is serving the Little Family.
