Mrs. Shirley Marie Culbertson

Mrs. Shirley Strange Culbertson, 78, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born on August 13, 1943, in Iredell County to the late Robert and Lona (Patterson) Strange. Shirley graduated from Rowan Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury, NC., where she received numerous certificates. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years. Shirley married Walter R. Culbertson in 1962 in Salisbury, N.C. They were happily married for 59 years. Shirley was a member of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. Shirley was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her brother Thomas Strange; sisters, Ruby Houpe, and Linda Jones. Shirley is survived by her spouse Walter of Cleveland, N.C.; five children Sylvester (Tracy) Culbertson, Deborah Culbertson, Raynard (Bouchra) Culbertson all of Cleveland, N.C., Dwayne (Emily) Culbertson, of Davidson, N.C., and Ryan (Tiffany) Culbertson, of Cleveland, N.C; three sisters, Barbara Banks, Carolyn Massey, and Phyllis Davis all of Baltimore, M.D, and a special brother Walter (Mary) Rankin of Troutman, N.C. She was Blessed with 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Salisbury N.C. with visitation at 1:30pm and funeral at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Mt Vernon Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 435 Carson Rd. Cleveland, N.C. Rev. Otto Gaither, Pastor, will officiate.
