Mrs. Vanessa Amy Matthews

SALISBURY - Mrs. Vanessa Amy Matthews, age 50, was born to the late Benjamin Matthews, Sr. and Katie Lou Matthews, on July 15, 1970 in Catawba County. On Tuesday, May 25, 2021 she went home to be with the Lord at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston Salem, North Carolina. She attended school in Catawba County. She worked as a custodian at Food Lion and was a member of Victory Church of God Ministry, South Cooleemee. Vanessa enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and other family members as well as attending church. Vanessa is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Katie Matthews; a sister Rolene Matthews; and brother Benjamin Matthews, Jr. Those left to cherish her memories: son, James Lyles, Jr.; three sisters, Macy Hill, Mooresville, NC, Maggie Barber, Newton, NC, and Diane (Charles) Neely, Cleveland, NC; two brothers, Donald Ray (Jackie) Matthews, and James Matthews; sister-in-law, Sharon Matthews; two grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Service: Tuesday, June 1, 2021, Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery Street, Salisbury, North Carolina, with Visitation at 12:30pm, and Service 1pm, followed by interment Oakwood Cemetery.
