Mr. William T. Badey, 73, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024.
Bill was born at Fort George G. Meade military base in Ft. Meade, MD, on September 15, 1950, to William and Eleanor Badey. His father was serving as an officer in the US Army, and soon after his birth, was reassigned to the US Army Garrison in Okinawa, Japan. Following that assignment, his father was transferred to the Pentagon in Arlington, VA, and the family resided in Falls Church, VA.
Bill is survived by his sister, Michele D. Badey of Fairfax, VA and brother-in-law Lawrence King of Mechanicsville, MD. He was preceded in death by his sister Jan Badey King, of Mechanicsville, MD, and his parents, Eleanor and Colonel William Badey. During his marriage to Renee Badey, he had three children: William C. Badey (Billy), and fraternal twins, Krysten (John) Kelch and Michael Badey (Kyle)
Bill enlisted in the US Army in 1970 and volunteered to serve in Vietnam with the 23rd Infantry Division, where he served as a legal clerk. Following this assignment, he was transferred to Ft. Carson, Colorado and then to Ft. Belvoir, VA where he was honorably discharged in 1972. After departure from the US Army, Bill worked for the Department of Defense for 33 years at the Army Research Institute as a Program Manager and directed a team that was responsible for the development and execution of occupational surveys for military personnel throughout the US Army. He retired from the Department of Defense in 2006.
During retirement, he moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. He loved the ocean and will be sorely missed by the many friends he made while living there. His family received many heartwarming sentiments from his friends in Myrtle Beach. Although he resided in Myrtle Beach, he spent most of his time with his son Kyle Badey, and former spouse Renee Badey in Charlotte, NC. He brought much joy to their lives and to neighbors in the community. Bill was very proud of his children's accomplishments and was in continuous communication with them. He especially adored his two granddaughters, Grace and Madison.
Bill will be remembered as a generous and kind-hearted person who would give anyone the "shirt off his back" when they needed help. There were countless instances in his life when he would support people in need and make great personal sacrifices in time and energy to make sure he gave them the support they needed. He loved to humor people with his life stories and jokes. During his retirement years, he thrived on mentoring and helping others. As a part of his legacy of helping others, he also enjoyed being a father figure to Elizabeth McNaughton of Bel Air, MD and Chris of Myrtle Beach, SC.
He enjoyed being "the purveyor of truthful news content" which he disseminated on a daily basis to his 4,000 followers on X (Twitter). He doted on his children, grandchildren and his former spouse Renee, and brought great joy to their lives. We are grateful that he was a believer in Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed by the many lives that he touched.
Plans are underway for a military funeral. The time and location will be determined and published at a later date.
